Welcome to Restaurant Larcher, a special place in the heart of Bolzano's historic centre, where you can try a great number of heartly South Tyrolean specialities as well as delicious traditional Italian dishes. Our restaurant is located at the southern end of Via Bottai, next to piazza del Municipio.
 Via Bottai
Thanks to its originally wrought-iron - signs, Via Bottai, is one of the most typical roads in historic Bolzano.
Its name derives directly from Bolzano's smiths, which was also one of the most important and oldest trades in mediaevel times.
IToday the job of barrel makers is still concerned with the design, the production and the repairing of barrels of different dimensions and types: adornment, souvenir or big storage barrels.
At the upper end of Via Bottai Nr. 4, you will notice a nice wall-painting representing 2 dancing barrel-maker-apprentices. This paint, embellishing the whole street was made in 1920 by Albert Stolz, the youngest of the three painter brothers Stolz.
We do not know very much about the history of this street. The first time someone mentioned the here set dance was in 1768, even though it was not invented by Bolzano's citizens but rather brought by German barrel-makers.
In Germany in fact, they were used to perform this kind of dance during shrovetide-time, in order to improve the guild's counter.
The last time the dance was performed in Bolzano, was in 1882, in honor of emperor Franz Joseph who paid an offical visit to the city. Afterwards it was staged several times: in 1948, 1957 and 1972, but always by scholars of a local dance-school.
